Are Designer Wedding Outfits Worth the Price?

There are so many wedding-related events that every bride wants to get styled for. From engagement parties and bridal showers to bachelorette parties and the rehearsal dinner, there’s certainly no shortage of events to shop for. As a bride, it’s normal to want to look your best during this time and wear outfits that feel more special than what you’d usually wear. With so many high-end, designer bridal focused outfits on the market, it can be tempting to overspend on these items. But here’s the question: are they worth the price, or should you opt for something more budget-conscious for your wedding events? The case for each side is made below so you can better choose how you want to spend—and dress—for all of your wedding-related events.

Is it Worth the Splurge?

Designer wedding outfits can run you a pretty penny. Whether it’s a cute little white dress for your rehearsal dinner or a star-studded jumpsuit for a night out on the town at your bachelorette party, buying a trendy, designer outfit can be really expensive. But, if you feel compelled to purchase one of these, there’s a definite case for doing so! You can always choose to splurge on just one outfit rather than on a separate look for every single wedding-related event. Or, you can buy one versatile piece that you can repurpose for multiple events leading up to your big day. If you think that you will wear this outfit time and time again, the splurge for a designer outfit could be worth it.

However, if you don’t have it in your budget to purchase a pricey outfit, you should use alternate shopping options rather than go into debt or sacrifice other aspects of your big day. If this is the case for you, don’t worry! There are plenty of other ways to fund your wedding-related wardrobe.

Alternative Methods of Finding a “Look”

There are so many ways to find a wedding event outfit besides buying something directly off the runway which, of course, comes with a hefty price tag. One unique way is to look for a vintage piece that matches your style. This is a fun and sustainable way to wear something one of a kind that you won’t see every other bride wearing. Try platforms like Etsy or a local vintage or thrift store to find the right piece.

Another way to source an outfit is to use resale platforms like Poshmark, eBay, Mercari, or even The Real Real. This could be a means of finding a designer outfit at a fraction of the cost, which is very wallet-friendly. If you want to rent an outfit to wear, Rent the Runway presents another option at a more economical price point, so be sure to check out their selection to see if it meets your vision!

What About Reselling These Outfits?

One way that you could make buying a designer outfit work for you is if you vow to resell the outfit after you have worn it. Of course, that means it’ll have to be in good condition after you wear it, and it’s not guaranteed it will sell. But, this is still a great option, even with non-designer pieces that you won’t wear after your wedding has passed. Take advantage of sites like Poshmark or eBay or even try selling these items in a wedding Facebook group to rehab some of that money and make the bite of the price easier to swallow.

The pressure to keep up with other brides can feel like a lot at times, especially since it’s heightened by social media. But rest assured that there are beautiful bridal looks to be found at any budget, and you don’t need to stretch your dollars beyond your means to love what you wear for every wedding-related event!
