7 Ways to Stay Fresh as a Summer Bride

Being a summer bride means you get to enjoy warm weather and beautiful sunshine…and also sweat. Lots of sweat. Hot temperatures and outdoor weddings mean sweaty armpits, drenched up-dos, and a soaked gown—which isn’t cute or comfortable. You definitely deserve to feel and look your best despite it being hot outdoors. So, how do you cope and prevent some of these challenges? Read on for our helpful ways to stay fresh as a summer bride.

1. Choose a wedding gown wisely

A summer wedding isn’t a time for a heavy wedding dress. Skip thick textures and tons of beading and instead think of material that’s light and airy, and that will flow with your body and not stick to it or weigh it down. You want a gown that’s stylish and elegant, but that also helps keep you cool and looking and feeling like the queen you are.

2. Keep yourself cool while getting ready

You definitely don’t want to be sweaty when getting prepped and primped for your big day. Make sure that you’re in a cool room when you’re getting your hair and makeup done, and also while you’re putting on your wedding gown. Having a cooler body temperature ensures your makeup will set better and that your dress will fit and feel better, too.

3. Keep your hair up

Humidity and wind can do major damage to your hair, so an updo is a great way to not only keep your hair looking and feeling fresh, but also keep you feeling cooler overall.

4. Embrace the Indoors

This sounds counterintuitive since you want to be able to enjoy the outdoors at a summer wedding, but it’s worth considering especially when it comes to keeping cool and fresh and looking your best for your bridal and wedding portraits. Consider having your photos done indoors first before moving into the outdoors. And throughout the evening, don’t be afraid to linger indoors for extended periods. It’ll help keep your body temperature down and reduce the chances of overheating.

5. Hire a professional to do your hair and makeup

Shelling out the cash for a professional hair and makeup team is worth it when it comes to being a summer bride. They know all the tips and tricks when it comes to creating a look that will be able to sustain all the sweat and tears for your entire wedding. You might even consider having them touch up your makeup halfway through your day. If not, then buy yourself some makeup setting spray, which will further help your makeup stay in place, and pack a few items to do a midday touch-up on your own.

6. Hydrate, hydrate!

It might seem like a no-brainer, but drinking water consistently is super important during a summer wedding, and is something that most brides forget. With all the socializing and (let’s be honest) wine and champagne that’s flowing, it’s easy to forget to hydrate yourself with water every hour, but that’s exactly what you should be doing to keep cool and healthy. No one wants you to pass out on your big day! It might be a good idea to have your maid of honor monitor your water intake throughout the day and make sure you’re staying hydrated as one of her tasks.

7. Remember the shade

Shade is your best friend when it comes to an outdoor wedding and ceremony. No matter how beautiful the day is, no one wants to say “I do” underneath a burning sun. Look for optimal places of heavy shade and coverage when considering the whereabouts of your outdoor ceremony. If you can’t find one, you might want to set up a large umbrella or some sort of coverage so that you’ll stay cool and out of direct sunlight. If you’re having an outdoor wedding celebration, umbrellas and tents are also good ideas when it comes to keeping you and your guests cool during the reception.

A summer wedding is a beautiful time to get married! Don’t let the hot weather keep you from looking and feeling your best, and keeping cool with the tips mentioned above.
